Dawkins & The Jews

I see that arch-rival of Christianity (in fact of all faiths, except, that is, atheism which itself a faith-system) has made a surprising generalisation about U.S. Jewry. It certainly shocked The Times commentator Danny Finkelstein, who reproduces Dawkins’ statement here. What is perhaps the most surprising, though, is not that Dawkins echoes that ancient and oft-used stereotype so favoured by anti-Semites that the Jews somehow control the world, but rather that the original source quoting Dawkins’ words, that grand old bastion of liberalism The Guardian newspaper, does not bat an eyelid. There is no condemnation or even discussion concerning Dawkins’ use of what is generally regarded as an unacceptable sterotype of Jews. Yet I’m quite sure that had someone on the political right or anyone deemed an enemy of liberalism had said something remotely similar, The Guardian would have been upon them like a tonne of bricks. But of course, Richard Dawkins is one of liberalism’s (and The Guardian’s) darlings, so clearly a good old fashioned dose of liberal double standards seems perfectly in order.
