The Omega Times was the publication of my late friend, New Zealand Evangelist Barry Smith, who went to be with The Lord after preaching his last sermon at an outreach organized by a Moriel affiliated congregation in Cheshire in The North of England. Barry was a dynamic evangelist whom The Lord used greatly as a missionary in The Mission Field of The South Pacific, and as an evangelist through whom many came to faith particularly in New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. Barry, his wife May, and their son Andrew who is in music ministry, served The Lord faithfully.
Prior to his death however, Barry was perhaps the only major Y2K proponent who admitted that he was discredited.
While a very good evangelist indeed, Barry was not a very good bible expositor and had a predisposition to conspiracy theories. The problem with conspiracy theories is that there is usually contain a grain of truth amplified out of proportion to corroborative facts and then embellished by, packaged in, and immersed under a sea of fanciful over speculative conjecture and sometimes pure nonsense undermining any points of validity they might otherwise convey.
It is the Salem Massachusetts stuff of which witch-hunts are made and often result in anti-Semitism (although Barry Smith himself was a Christian supporter of Israel and lover of The Jews and was not a witch hunter).
Once it invades the Christian Church, conspiracy theory too often masquerades as biblical discernment and infiltrates eschatology. The Y2K scare mongering was the epitome of this trend, widely promulgated by D. James Kennedy, RC Sproul, and a host of Reconstructionist Calvinists. In the case of Barry Smith, The Omega Times was the vehicle for disseminating the kind of material that Barry at least displayed the public humility and Christian integrity that left him openly discredited. I wish that other riders on the Y2K bandwagon had shared his honesty and humility – but most did not.
It had in fact been my hope, and the hope of others known to us, that the Omega Times as a publication would be revised into a serious periodical once taken over by Mr. Brian Hay. Unfortunately, it has now been categorically demonstrated that THE OMEGA TIMES has gone from bad to worse into a hateful piece of trash that no one in their right mind, let alone any saved Christian, should read. No person of average intelligence who is in his or her right mind could take such a ridiculous specimen of foolishness seriously.
The term NAZI of course is a German acronym for ‘National Socialist Workers Party’. The hideous claims of Brian Hay that the term ASHKENAZI for European Jewry (an ancient Hebrew term from The Old Testament) has the same root cannot be properly described as anything but idiotic. Such an assertion is pure stupidity.
His further claims of Ashkenazi Jews being non-Jews (an old battle cry of anti Semites) are discredited by mitochondrial DNA and anthropology. His arguments that American diplomats and nearly all of Bush’s advisers are Ashkenazis trained in Talmud is stupid. The main two faculties of international studies where American diplomats are trained are Columbia University in New York, The Kennedy School for International Studies at Harvard, and Georgetown University in Washington DC (a Jesuit institution). None has Talmudic studies on their curriculum and few Bush advisers are Jewish.
More ridiculous is Mr. Hay’s assertion that Prince Charles is Ashkenazi. In fact, the mother of Prince Charles is half Scottish and half Hanoverian. His father is Greek.
Admittedly, the combination of complete and utter nonsense borrowed from anti Semite rhetoric and what seems to be the result of his badly concocted fabrications is too absurd to warrant serious comment. There is no euphemism for such badly manufactured stupidity. Brian Hay is an obvious charlatan and a laughable fraud.
None-the-less, in the interests of correcting a supposed brother in error, Brother Bob Mitchell who operates a solid website, did attempt to constructively engage Mr. Hay, but predictably to no avail. Mr. Hay’s mind is apparently made up to believe his invented fairy tales and seems adverse to being confused with the facts.
No one with a macadam of common sense or an ounce of Christian discernment should read The Omega Times. I have seen hate literature before, but with the exception of some of the extreme Islamic propaganda, I have never witnessed anything as absolutely nonsensical as the twisted ramblings of Brian Hay (even Robert Sungenis does not write anything so void of credibility as the NAZI/ ASHKENAZI delusion). Brian Hay is sad man indeed whose implausible views are factually abject and seriously warped.
It is very difficult to see how his polemics could be anything less than the product of a confused, ignorant, and some would maintain – a deranged mind. We express our apologetic regrets for the strong phraseology, but there is no simply no polite or gracious way of commenting on anything so moronically sick and patently ludicrous.
For the record below is Bob Mitchell’s response to Mr. Hay:
I agree with the writer of the latest article as far as his suggestion that the Antichrist will enter the hearts of weak, deceived Christians and of course the unsaved.
But I also believe Antichrist will sit in the temple. Something, which the author of this particular piece doesn’t seem to believe. My error. He does believe there will be a Temple. It will be a literal building. This is where the abomination of desolation takes place (Daniel 9.)
We must remember the place this is first mentioned is in Daniel 9. The prophecy is for the Jewish people concerning the 70 weeks. The angel said 70 weeks are determined on your people. The abomination occurs mid way through the final week of 7 years.
So, the abomination has to do primarily with the Jewish people. Of course, it will also effect the rest of the planet when all are made to bow to Antichrist, but initially it will be a Jewish desecration in a Jewish temple.
That doesn’t mean the church …does it? But certainly some in the church will be deceived.
That doesn’t mean all believers think the Jews should build a temple. I would agree to bring in sacrifices again is as bad as celebrating the Mass. One (sacrifices) denies Jesus died for our sins while the other (Mass) denies that it was once and for all. Both are abominable and cannot be supported by true believers.
Those who want to help build a temple are actually participating in preparing the way for the Antichrist. But a temple will be there otherwise how can Daniel’s prophecy come true when it says in the midst of the week he (Antichrist) shall put an end to sacrifices etc?
Simply put….no temple..no sacrifices.
So, if there is no temple how can Antichrist stop sacrifices that are not being performed there?
The writer then goes on to say the word Nazi comes from the Ashkenazi Jews of Europe.
This is so ignorant and deeply offensive I find it difficult to believe a Christian would write it.
That’s like saying the Sinclair family must be direct creators of sin because the name has the word “sin” in it showing they are the originators of sin.
According to Wikipedia, this is where the word Nazi comes from:
The term Nazi is derived from the first two syllables of Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, the official German language name of the National Socialist German Workers Party (commonly known in English as the Nazi Party). Party members rarely referred to themselves as Nazis, and instead used the official term, Nationalsozialisten (National Socialists).
So, the title has absolutely nothing to do with the Jews.
The writer of the article then goes on to mention the law courts in Jerusalem and suggests this is where the Antichrist will enter and rule from. Because the law courts were donated by the Rothschilds and are full of Masonic imagery.
According to the writer, these courts are the “Talmudic Temple of Law” just sitting there “awaiting operational habitation.”
Well – Yes, the law courts are a gift from the Rothschilds. A female member actually. And, Yes, they are built after Masonic symbolism…I think that is very interesting and should be looked into.
But they are not sitting there “awaiting operational habitation.” They are in constant use.
I don’t know where you got the info from but I can’t find any reference to the “Talmudic Temple of Law awaiting operational habitation.”
The building is the Israel Supreme Court. Used daily!
The writer even seems to believe in the Merovignian bloodlines of the royal families of Europe, Dan Brown and the Priory of Sion.
The Priory of Sion was exposed as fake back in the 1970′s. It was not an ancient secret society dating from the Knights Templar of Jerusalem of the 11th Century.
The Priory of Sion was actually a group originally set up in the 1950′s to help people get better housing in France!! The rest was made up.
The founder of the Priory of Sion was later shown to be a complete fraud, a nasty bit of work who had even offered his services to the Nazis in southern France during World War II.
I think that’s enough to be getting on with.
So to recap:
The temple will be built.
Ashkenazi has nothing at all to do with the word Nazi. That is such an insulting thing for this man to even suggest.
The (unused waiting to be inhabited) Talmudic Temple of Law does not exist but the same building is in use and is in fact the Israeli Supreme Court.
The Merovignian bloodline and Dan Brown‘s Priory of Sion are all fantasy and found only in books not in the real world.
Sincerely in Christ,
