A Question About Communion

A reader writes:

I am listening to JP right now and heard him say something that I have thought about for a REALLY long time. When Yeshua has the disciples in the upper room for Passover and says “do this in remembrance of Me…” we share the wine and the matza during the seder…..BUT in my church [edited] they have “communion” (isn’t that a catholic word???) every month and say as Jesus said to do this as often as you gather and in remembrance of Me. What are they bringing to remembrance? The crucifixion? I want this clarified if possible. I am 99% leaning toward “doing this in remembrance of Me”….is every year when celebrating Passover to do this. Is this correct or what am I missing? Thank you so much for your help. Who Can Understand God’s Prophetic Plan?

“But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.”
– Daniel 12:4

“I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
– Luke 18:8

For most people studying the book of Daniel, the emphasis would be on the visions, the miracles, and perhaps unraveling the various numbers provided which describe the timing of the unfolding of God’s prophetic plan. In other words, the quest is often to determine the meaning of those things which, as of Daniel’s time at least, were sealed up. But Jesus offers what at first blush is a contrast to the quest for knowledge in stating that the important character trait He will be looking for at His Second Coming is faith. (Lk. 18:8) I would offer that if we were to study the book of Daniel looking for what we as believers are to personally apply just like any other portion of Scripture, we will accomplish both goals simultaneously. In other words, the greater treasure provided in the book of Daniel is that biblical insight and understanding is promised not as a gift to a privileged few granted a superior intellect, but to anyone attaining to greater faithfulness by putting God’s Word and ways into practice. Psalm 83

The Soon Coming Fate of Israel’s Near Neighbors

By Pastor Bill Randles

Keep not Thou silence O God; hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For lo, thine enemies make a tumult; and they that hate Thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against Thy people, and consulted against Thy hidden ones. They have said, Come let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may no more be of remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent; they are confederate against Thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek, the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them, they have helped the children of Lot…(Psalm 83:1-8) Continue reading »

Psalm 83 Part 2

Why Do They Make Such a Tumult?

By Pastor Bill Randles

In our previous article, we looked at the question of the “who” of Psalm 83. Who are these nations who make a tumult against the people of God, taking counsel together to “cut them off from being a nation, that the nation of Israel be remembered no more”? The modern day names for this confederacy are those nations which surround the present day state of Israel – Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip, Palestinians, and some from Iraq also “have helped the children of Lot”. Psalm 83 Part 3

What the Answer Will Look Like

By Pastor Bill Randles

“ Deal with them as you did with Midian, with Sisera, with Jabin, at the brook Kishon-who were destroyed at Endor, who became dung for the field. Treat their great men like Oreb and Zeev, all their princes like Zeba and Zalmuna…cover their faces with shame so that they may seek Your name, O Lord.” (Psalm 83:10-14) Continue reading »

The Capture of the Ark

God as a P.O.W?

By:  Pastor Bill Randles
May 17, 2010

I believe that there is so much more to the so-called Bible stories than most Christians realize. Too often they are just relegated to children’s Sunday school felt board stories, or attempts are made to derive morality lessons from them. Jesus and the apostles treated these stories in a far more serious vein – Adam, Eve, Lot and Noah were used to teach the Gospel and especially to reveal eschatology, which is the teaching on “the end”.  As Jesus said, “As in the days of Noah, so shall be the day of the coming of the son of man…” Continue reading »

The Future History of Israel

By: Pastor Bill Randles
May 18, 2010

Bible stories, as we noted earlier, are so much more than mere morality lessons. They preach the Gospel, reveal Christ and as we will point out in this instance, they contain eschatology.

The story of the capture of the Ark of God in I Samuel 4-6 is an amazing example of this. These three chapters are narratives of actual events in history. The Israelites really did try to throw off the Philistines, using the Ark of God as a talisman, and losing it in battle. The Philistines truly played hot potato with the Ark, after they “captured it”, passing it from city to city among the five lords of the Philistines. All of this happened. Continue reading »

The Future History of the Gentiles

I Samuel 5

By Pastor Bill Randles
May 21, 2010

The story of the capture of the Ark of God contains not only history, as we have seen, but also the Gospel and Eschatology. We pointed out in our last article that the future history of Israel was outlined in the double defeats by the Philistines and the loss of the Ark.

The first defeat, in which 4000 Israelites were killed in battle, corresponds to the Babylonian captivity and the destruction of Solomon’s temple. It was devastating, but Israel did return from captivity and the temple was rebuilt after more than 70 years. Continue reading »

Hemorrhoids and Mice

Hemorrhoids and Mice

By Pastor Bill Randles
May 25, 2010

Now the hand of the Lord was heavy on the Ashdodites and He destroyed them and smote them with emerods, both Ashdod and its territories. (I Samuel 5:6)

Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine. And He smote His enemies in the hinder parts, and put them to a perpetual reproach. (Psalm 78:65-66) Continue reading »

The Ark Returns … 1 Samuel 6

The Ark Returns…I Samuel 6

By Pastor Bill Randles
June 29,2010

Then the cows headed straight for the road to Beth Shemesh and went along the highway lowing as they went, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left, and the Lords of the Philistines went after them to the border of Beth Shemesh. Now the people of Beth Shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley, and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark and rejoiced to see it. (I Samuel 6:12-13) Continue reading »

The Doctrine of Balaam

By Pastor Bill Randles
June 20, 2010

Nevertheless I have a few things against you, for you have there those who hold to the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication… (Rev 2:14)

By the end of the fourth ‘parable’ of Balaam, both he and Balak the king were fully aware of God’s purposes for Israel. The utter impossibility of using any kind of divination against Israel was now obvious to the badly shaken king and to the seer also – whose eyes God had opened. Continue reading »

Midrash and Jacob Prasch

SORTING FACT FROM FICTION

What does the Word of God Actually Say About Midrash?

“Now the remainder of the deeds of of Abijah, and his ways and words are written in the ‘MIDRASH‘ [ מִדְרַ֖שׁ ] of the Prophet Iddo”. (2 Chronicles 13:22)

(Directly from the God-given text of original, divinely inspired Hebrew canon.)

“As to his sons and many oracles [burdens] against him, and the reconstruction of the House of God, behold these are written in the ‘MIDRASH‘ [ מִדְרַ֖שׁ ] of the Book of kings. Then Amaziah his son became King in his place”. (2 Chronicles 24:27)

(Directly from the God-given text of original, divinely inspired Hebrew canon.)

Yes friends, it is a fact; it is there in Scripture. “MIDRASH” is plainly taught in the Word of God. It is cited as a valid historical source and as a theological source of a prophetic interpretation of scriptural events and biblical history. GOD PUT IT IN HIS WORD – NOT JACOB PRASCH OR ANY MAN. Question on Copyist Error and KJV-Only

A Reader Sent the Following Question:

I am sorry to trouble you with this question but hope you can help.

I am in the process of having to deal with a Ruckmanite who is causing real problems in a Church. I have pointed out to him a copyist error in the KJV and cannot come up with any other explanation than the fact that it is a copyist error that has crept into the translation. The 2 paralell passages in question are 2 Chronicles 22vs 2 & 2 Kings 8 vs 26.

2 Chronicles 22:2

” Forty and two years old was Ahaziah whn he began to reign and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri”

2 Kings 8:26

Two & Twenty Years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign: and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mothers name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri”

I have checked some other translations which suggest he was 22 on both counts. I have also read an attempt by a KJV nut to try an explain it and it was absolutely crazy. I know that the Individual in question will revert to M. Ruckman & Mr. Gipp personally on this issue and further more my knowledge in this area is clearly limited.

The Variorum has in its footnote that 2 Chronicles 22:2 should be 22 and not 42. The NIV & Darby Translation have it on both occasions at age 22.

Thanks for your help I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Continue reading »
