Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your loving kindness, because of Your truth.”

As of late we have been asked a few questions by various people which we take to be indications of the kind of questions many people are asking. So this month we thought we would answer them in our newsletter for all to read. They are answered according to the most asked question first and the least asked question last. Continue reading »

Well Hlobo(summer) has arrived here. I can see that our solar shower will be used for cooling off once the temps start to get really high.
Our hut feels more and more like home now. Salvi has put up a secure clothes line for Di. Once we have secured a section of the garden from cows and chickens it will be great to start the planting for our veggie garden. We have sown a small piece of lawn in front of our home to help keep the mud down to a minimum for when the rains come and have used the wonderful supply of rocks around us to make paths and walk areas. The mud is incredible here, I can see why they used it for there huts. It is a clay soil that builds on itself. Our shoes end up being platforms like something out of the 70’s. It is near impossible to try and get it off once it has dried. Hence the paths and grass!!!!! Continue reading »

Well after returning from Springs it was a nice surprise to see most of the hut finished from the builders’ point of view. We set about getting the windows in, doors hung, walls painted, curtains hung and floor polished. It was a busy couple of weeks but eventually we moved the furniture in. It is the time of year when the long grass gets cut for thatching, many ladies were going past with huge piles of grass on their heads and several popped there heads in for a look. Continue reading »

Here we are, at the auction yard where Salvador used to live. An extension lead comes out of the kitchen area where there is power and we are typing this newsletter from the comfort of our truck. The sound of wind blowing through the trees can be heard and behind, tree littered mountains surround us. As you can tell we are not in Gauteng anymore. Continue reading »

Acts 8:3-31 “Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.”
Well the month has finally arrived when we are heading off to start the new work in KwaZulu Natal. Salvi has been at Ebyown for the last three years and Di for the last 2. It has been a strange feeling moving out of the plot and into Allen and Sue’s place. Salvi has stayed here twice. First when Dave and Lyn lived here and then now with the Wells. And the experience really goes to show that it is not the bricks and mortar that shapes a home’s identity but the people that live within it. We are using this time to visit friends and say goodbye before we head off into the field. It has been quite relaxing the last few days and we thank God for it. We are also grateful for the people whom God has used to bless us in many different ways and encourage us to press into the Lord and press forward in the work that He has for us to do. Thank you for your support in letters and prayers and your involvement in our lives. Continue reading »

Dear Moriel Supporters.
This last month has been quite encouraging but there have been challenges too. On the good side of news we have had 4 people give their lives to the Lord. Two of which are a couple that have had a child out of wedlock. We are trusting that they will have a civil ceremony soon and then they will be baptised. It was a pleasure seeing the Lord open the guys eyes to the Gospel and him zealously grab the offer of salvation with both hands. In none of the cases was there an altar call. They all approached Zak and I about salvation. In a 5th case a lady recommitted her life to the Lord after being involved in a church that was antinomian in its teaching. On the bad side of news, our friend, Sam, has been ill for a couple of weeks with sinus problems and severe headaches. He has seen a couple of doctors but wasn’t satisfied that the medication he had been given was taking away the pain. He went to a traditional herbalist for some medicine but this had a bad effect on him. We have visited him in hospital and were pleased to see that he was feeling better though still looking thin. While he has been ill the last couple of weeks he has stubbornly refused to eat, so it was good to see him eating. Please pray for Him that God would be gracious and convict him and restore him. Sam is a lovely guy who had a real heart change a few months back and it has been sad to see him in the position he has been in. Continue reading »

News on Guy
As some of you know we have been praying for Guy. Guy is about 2 years old and the son of Di’s brother’s best friend. He was taken into hospital, a couple of months ago in a very critical condition with Cardio Myopathy. The family are not Christians but had been asking for prayer. Guy is doing better now but still needs prayer. You can check on his progress on this blog page that the family have set up http://flyguymegapixel.blogspot.com/ Continue reading »

The Latest News
Well here we are the start of another year. Before finishing off 2007 we had several more visits onto the KwaZenzele settlement. There was a sense of excitement before Christmas and everyone was very open to sharing. We made contact with a young man called Oscar, Sal got talking and soon he shared with us the book he was reading “purpose driven”. This opened up a wonderful discussion, in the end phone numbers were exchanged and we said once we returned from Kwazulu we would give him a call so talks could continue.
After a wonderful Christmas break we headed off to Kawzulu Natal on the 28th of Dec. The car was stacked up with gifts for the kids club, blankets, clothes, food an not forgetting a portable loo. God had provided so much before we went, including the finances for the car hire.
Driving there took about 4 hours and Salvi’s grin grew larger and larger the closer we got.
We pulled into Phumulani’s kraal about 4pm after picking up supplies. Over the next week we spent most days visiting different kraals where reunions were made and devotions were shared. We were able to attend kids club twice, the second time we were asked to lead it. Over the time there it was great to encourage Phumulani and Salvi and himself spent most evenings sharing ideas and thoughts. Due to the kindness of gifts given we were able to purchase some teaching books to help him in his preaching. The church of Phumulani’s is a small gathering of believers with humble and thirsty hearts to hear the word of the Lord.
We wrote a diary when we were away so if you would like to know more of the day to day run down of our trip we will be sent out to you soon.
Other News
Reminder that we head off to New Zealand on the 6th of February and return the 5th of March. This is to see family and sort out matters before returning to South Africa as full time missionaries. We will get the February newsletter out to you before we go. God Bless and have a good new year.
Prayer Requests
- For Di and Salvi in their life, ministry and future direction for 2008.
- For the people we met in Kwazulu that they continue to be
encouraged in the word of God
- That travel plans would go smoothly for the New Zealand trip
- That relationships would continue to grow on the settlement.
