Bezaleel Newsletter November 2009

Dear friends

Five thirty on a Saturday morning saw myself and the seven younger children heading out the gate in the bakkie (van) for Kwa Zulu Natal for our longed for visit, albeit a short one to Salvador and Dianne. We left Allen in the capable care of Lizzie, Thoko, Rosie and Walter to spend a quiet weekend at home with Roxanne coming in to cook supper for them. Four and a half hours later found us at Vryheid after an uneventful journey including a long stretch littered with potholes and kilometers traveling behind lines of four to five trucks at a time ahead of us. Salvador and Dianne met us in Vryheid and we followed them out of town to the outlying farmlands about forty minutes away. We then turned down a sand road (actually a mud road) and a little way along arrived at their home. Continue reading »

Spring at last. What joy! We’ve had what seems like a long, cold winter especially at night and the early mornings, with heavy frost. Even though it is not my favourite season, winter is necessary and teaches us many things. Psalm147 reminds us that God created the seasons and this gives us pause to worship Him.

He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly.

He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes.

He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who can stand before His cold?

He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow. Vs.15-18.NASB. Continue reading »

Events that have happened in our lives since we last wrote in March brought Ecc.3:1-8 to mind for me in a very personal way. Continue reading »

Bezaleel Newsletter – March 2009

Dear friends

Our days have slipped into the steady stream of routine that school life brings and we are fast approaching the end of the first term of school this year. Our main direction for our homeschool life is drawn from Charlotte Mason’s principles of education. It is diverse and creative, rooted in God and His creation, exposing the children to a broad base of subjects, providing a strong foundation for further growth in any field they choose to follow. The cornerstone of our education is the bible, with us beginning most of our days in reading, discussion and prayer. It is a delight to share God’s word with the children. They regard it with wonder and awe and so readily believe its claims, and trust and love God who is its author. Continue reading »

January 2009

Dear friends<

The other morning, really early, I was on the veranda praying, when five African Hoopoe birds landed on the grass and began to probe the ground for food. It had just rained the previous evening and the ground was soft, yielding plenty of food for them. The scripture immediately came to mind in Matthew 6:25 and 26 regarding the birds and how they, without effort or anxiety, are fully provided for by the Lord and the admonition by Jesus is, if this is so for the birds we should not be anxious regarding our needs because we are worth much more than they.

Bezaleel Report December 2008

Dear friends,

Who would believe such a report? A global financial crisis, huge fluctuations in the oil price, and particular to us in South Africa the ANC government in turmoil. In a matter of a few short months situations have come to a head. Scripture tells us that we are not of this world but in it and that God is with us. Jesus also tells us that in the last days certain events will happen but we are not to be anxious because He is with us. Continue reading »

Bezaleel News – May 2008

Dear friends

For some time now I have been thinking about three verses particularly in Psalm 90, verses2b, 12 and 17. Even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God. So teach us to number our days, That we may present to thee a heart of wisdom. And let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us; And do confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands. [NASB].Our lives consist of days that bear eternal significance in the lives of those we love, care for, teach, and witness to and so on. As we yield our lives to God to teach us how best to serve Him each day, He gives us the wisdom to do so. We also rely on Him to give permanence to what we do, thus seeing fruit in the lives of those with whom we have to do. Children, particularly young ones keep one’s feet firmly on the ground with the demands of the day a constant reminder to carefully weigh what is important and draw on the wisdom of God. One also realizes the significance of being faithful in small increments of time that are consistently being laid one upon another to produce the desired effect one seeks. For example: By faithfully giving our HIV+ children their ARV’s daily, we significantly halt the progress of the virus in their bodies. If we choose to be unwise and sporadically miss some doses, we create a very real threat of resistance to their treatment, ill health and a shortened life expectancy. So it is with our faith. If we play fast and loose with the Truth and fail to demonstrate observable love to those we hope to reach and the people we are in relationship with, there exists a real possibility that we contribute to a resistance in people seeking the Lord. Regardless of what the future holds, the Lord would have us be faithful in the task set before us. Continue reading »

Bezaleel News – November 2007

Dear friends

As we approach the end of the year, this newsletter allows me to gather my thoughts regarding the year behind us and reflect on God’s goodness to us during it. That He has been and more. His unchanging love for us, the wonderful people He has given us to share in the care of our children, His strength that brings us through difficult, stressful and exhausting times, the joy we experience at answered prayer and the wonderful gift of each day He gives, to fully serve Him where He has placed us. Bezaleel News – June 2007

Dear friends,

Our days begin with the household erupting into wakefulness and ending in the blissful sounds of sleeping children. We go about the mornings to the strains of a Baroque Minuet and the beginning halting efforts of Hava Nagila rendered by Lizzie on the piano. As she conscientiously practices each day in preparation for her upcoming exams and the Music Festival in August and September, her improvement is obvious and it adds a festive air to our chores. On completion she moves to her recorder and practices with quiet confidence. She is also preparing for the London Trinity Exam for recorder. Thabo pipes out notes on his recorder, and as a beginner his progress pleases his teacher. Ruth doggedly plucks on her guitar in counts of 4: B, C, D, E, F and G with Allen or my encouragement. She was not able to attend her music lesson this week because the teachers and pupils were threatened by the union that they would be shot if they went to school. At present, government institutions like schools and hospitals are striking for an increase in wages. Continue reading »
