Logic, Perspicacity, And A Touch Of Common Sense

Edmund Burke said that, “the only thing necessary for evil men to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” I like to add that if you know something is wrong and evil and affecting people and you do not speak up on it then you not loving people. This principle can be applied to the Christianity. Continue reading »

The Rev. Joel Osteen preaches forgiveness and optimism, and each Sunday, thousands fill his Houston church to hear his message.

Neo-Pharisees: The New ‘Heresy-Hunters’

by Jackie Alnor

There’s a new term being brandished against those in the church called as watchmen. It used to be “heresy hunters” but now we’re being called “neo-Pharisees.” The former label was made popular by TBN’s Paul Crouch against those who exposed the false doctrines of TBN regulars who taught the Positive Confession/Word-Faith teachings that they utilized to get the viewers to pay them for God’s favors. The new term is courtesy of the Emerging Church using such demagogy against anyone who dares to point out the occult/mystical roots of “contemplative prayer” and iconology. Continue reading »

Joel Osteen: The Prosperity Gospel’s Coverboy

Move over Robert Schuller, the Church of Laodicea has a new star on the rise in the world of positive motivational Christianity. It’s Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, whose motto is “Discover the Champion in You.” He is the son of Pentecostal preacher the late John Osteen. But where his dad lacked in charm and charisma the 39-year-old son makes up for it in the style of a Tony Robbins with the looks of a Richard Gere. Osteen made the list of the Top 20 Influencers of the Pentecostal/charismatic community in the Jan/Feb 2003 Issue of Ministries Today magazine. He was listed with other notables such as Kenneth Hagin Sr., Tommy Tenney, C. Peter Wagner, and Joyce Meyer. “There is no arguing that the following 20 leaders have inspired us, challenged us and in many ways caused us to rethink what it means to “do church” in today’s culture,” the article boasted. The younger Osteen lives the life of prosperity that he preaches. A 2001 Real Estate Guide (http://northvalley.com/realestate_board/messages/

) valued his home at $1,265,500. His sermon titles give clues as to the focus of Osteen’s ministry: Continue reading »

Apprising Joel Osteen’s Word-Faith Teachings

by Ken Silva

As one looks deeper into the “feel-good” message of smiling Joel Osteen, it becomes clear that his doctrine is actually far worse than spiritual junk-food, for it is indeed the spiritual poison of the Word Faith Movement which is seeping up through through its decadent and decaying root in the metaphysical Mind Science cults. In Bed with TBN

By Jackie Alnor

There’s been a long-running debate in the evangelical church over what policy should be followed in deciding whether or not to buy air-time on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) or any other “Christian” network that promotes the “Prosperity Gospel,” which is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Should teachers who promote the true Gospel grace the set of the “Praise the Lord” program or any other show hosted by false teachers? Continue reading »

TBN and the Root of All Evil

by Jackie Alnor

“Greed” — one of the seven deadly sins. The dictionary calls it: “An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth.” [1]

The last days’ Church of Laodicea is marked as one full of greed and avarice. The church that Jesus is going to spew out of His mouth is rich in this world’s goods. Jesus tells this church: ” . . you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’– and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked — ” (Rev. 3:17).

It’s only been very recently that the accumulation of wealth has been interpreted as God’s blessing on His people. One of the first preachers to popularize this notion in the 1960s was the Reverend Ike. [2] When he first burst on the scene he was immediately recognized as a religious phony. No Bible believing Christian took him seriously. Continue reading »

In the “letters to the editor” section of the January, 1999, issue of Charisma Magazine, Reverend Ike wrote in complaining of being villainized in an article written about a false prophet, Bernard Jordan. “My ‘incessant financial appeals’ are probably mid-range compared to the incessant financial appeals of every other church, minister, TV evangelists and those advertising products and events in Charisma.”
