That Laidlaw College (formerly Bible College of New Zealand) has departed from its scripturally Evangelical origins into spiritual and doctrinal bankruptcy is a view I find widely held by many Scripture-believing Kiwi Evangelicals. Indeed, with its present senior lecturer Philip Church, I cannot help but make the case that its perceived abandonment of its heritage into the abject realm of compromise with increasing liberal theological influence is now being followed by an academic and ethical devaluation into non-comprehensive exegesis and revisionism with regard to the anti-Israel position of Mr. Church in his factually and doctrinally erroneous Christ at The Checkpoint article. The Hillsong Escapade

At the above link you’ll read an interesting story and some good blog comments. I am quoted and am happy to go with the flow even though the journalist did NOT meet his promise to check with me before quoting me. He is reasonably accurate in the way he quotes me. I support Spencer Gear’s view (see the blog comment) and while I think that due to their abuse of the system Hillsong should be stripped of their Tax Free status I do not have a problem with Church’s registration for Tax Free status per se. It is the abuse that should be looked at and monitored especially in the case of the Houston family. If Brian and Bobby are multi-millionaires as is alleged, the question that should be asked is where and how did they get their wealth?. I know and everyone associated knows they came from a poor back-ground. The issue is not the $300,000 per year that Brian claims (incidentally is that between Brian and Bobby or is it $300,000 each?) but rather their net financial (monetary) worth at this point in time. This is the question I would be asking.

TV Channel 7 – programme – Today Tonight – recorded an interview with me last Tuesday. I am told it will air this coming week.

My major concern about Hillsong is that they present a false message about Christianity and about the true Christian Church. They pervert the scriptures and will ultimately incur the judgment of almighty God. In many ways they have become a cult with a cult following.

The Real Problem is that it is Getting Colder

Something that has burdened my heart for more than 20 years now is why so few followers of biblically false personalities claiming to be “Christian” divorce themselves from that figure when it is proved that that such are false either by their fraudulent activities, when they prophesy something in the name of the Lord which fails to come true, and/or their own teaching laid side-by-side with God’s Word is proven to be nothing short of heresy. For example:

• The local hospital holds a press conference to confirm that contrary to Todd Bentley’s claims, there was not a single confirmation that any of the so-called miracles performed were true, directly contradicting his assertions to the contrary. On top of that he leaves his wife and children for the proverbial church secretary and yet none of these things persuade his followers of the truth about this heretic.

• You can print out entire websites devoted to documenting the false prophecies uttered by Benny Hinn for the last 15 years. (The really short list is comprised of those which came true.) No one leaves; he is bigger than ever.

• The public exposure of Ted Haggard’s secret life of sex and drugs should have come as no surprise after the years of discernment ministries documenting his false teachings. Nobody in his following slapped their head, repented, and saw this as evidence to change their ways on either count. Like a recurring movie monster who simply makes another sequel, people are once again flocking in significant numbers to him.

With the huge number of “discernment ministries” filling cyberspace who daily document and warn about these and an embarrassingly large host of others, why is it that the truth rarely seems to work? Remember…I am not talking about the unsaved outside the church; this is a phenomenon limited to those within the church. Continue reading »

The Shack Author Says: The God of Evangelical Christianity is a Monster.

On Friday night, author and researcher Ray Yungen attended a lecture at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon to hear The Shack author William Paul Young. The name of Young’s talk was “Can God Really Be That Good?” During the talk, Young told the audience that “the God of evangelical Christianity is a monster.” He was referring to the belief that God is a God of judgment and will judge the unbelieving. Young also rejects the biblical view of atonement (wherein Jesus died as a substitute for us to pay the price of our sins). This view by Young is evident in a radio interview he had one year ago where he rejected the biblical view of the atonement. He echoes the sentiments of William Shannon and Brennan Manning, who both say that the God who punishes His own son to pay for the sins of others does not exist: Continue reading »

Where Are All the Servants?

“But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.” (Matthew 23:8-12)

And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant. For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.” (Luke 22:24-27)

The Benny Hinn Ten Commandments Paperweight

It was not that long ago when we could purchase the “Benny Hinn Olive Oil” in exchange for a $200 donation which not only netted a bottle of extra virgin olive oil with Benny’s portrait prominently displayed on the label, but a promise to plant an olive tree in our name in Israel. But not to worry if you missed out on the olive oil. A quick glance at Mr. Hinn’s website reveals quite a number of products which are readily available. For instance we are offered the “Holy Land Candle Lantern” which is “accompanied by a scroll with a special message from Pastor Benny” and is “filled with the fragrance of frankincense”. Then there is the “Sword of the Word Letter Opener” purported to be “perfect for your home office or workplace”. And let us not forget the “Ten Commandments Tablet Paperweight” which is “perfect in time for holiday gift-giving”. I only selected three from many pages of items for sale through his website. But taken together with the activities of his ministry and teachings which are a matter of public record, not to mention his millionaire lifestyle of mansions and private jets, can you seriously look me in the eye and state with confidence that he meets the biblical criteria which Jesus Christ Himself set forth for spiritual leaders? Ted Haggard and Ted Bundy: More in Common Than a First Name

Ted Haggard, the disgraced ex-pastor of a 14,000 member Colorado megachurch, has announced in a press conference that, in spite of a promise not to do so, he is planting a new church in his home town of Colorado Springs. On his website, he writes, “St. James Church is for anyone, and I do mean anyone: Democrats, Republicans, Independents and those who go to Tea Party rallies. If you are straight, gay, or bi, I want to walk through the Scriptures with you. If you are black, white, Hispanic (sic), native American, or a confusing combination, you are welcome here. Those working to overcome their sex or drug addictions, St. James is for you…. Adulterers, Ex-con. Everyone is welcome.”

Few of us who have followed Haggard’s fall of shame in the last few years are surprised by this announcement. And there is a very good reason why: Christian or not, evangelical or not, Ted Haggard is the poster child of a classic pathological narcissist. Continue reading »

Leonard Sweet and Calvary Chapel, Albuquerque Cancellation

A number of websites reacted unfavorably to an advertised conference scheduled to take place at the Calvary Chapel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA where Skip Heitzig is pastor. Moriel also posted these reports after being contacted by various Calvary Chapel pastors and people, mainly in the USA. Mr. Sweet is by no scriptural standard a Christian, but by every reasonable standard a New Age mystic and a pure Gnostic. Is it a saga of shame, betrayal, and foolishness by those who should (and actually do) know better, or is it more a matter of biblical ignorance, a misplaced zeal, pandering to the pressures of theocratic politics, or convoluted loyalties, or a lack of wisdom from above?

There is no doubt that God’s PEACE plan is the redemptive and regenerative Gospel of Jesus alone; there is no true salvation in any other Name (Acts 4:12), nor any other true God but the God of Israel (Exodus 20:3, Jeremiah 10:10) and other gods are demons (1 Corinthians 10:20, Deuteronomy 32:17, Psalm 106:37). Nor is there any other true “PEACE” except through God’s peace plan based on the New Testament Gospel of salvation by grace and justification through faith (Luke 2:14, Romans 3:17, Romans 5:1, Ephesians 2:14, 2 Thessalonians 3:16, 1 Peter 5:14, 2 Peter 3:14).

Rick Warren however, has teamed up with Tony Blair to push Rick Warren’s own “Global ‘PEACE’ Plan” aligning governments, industries, and religions – all religions (including Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and worshipers of other “gods” which Scripture identifies as demons) to inaugurate Warren’s peace plan contrary to God’s and omits the Gospel of Jesus as the only true “PEACE”. First Satan raised up ecumenical deceiver Chuck Colson supported by false prophet Pat Roberstson and J. I. Packer to betray the scriptural Gospel compromising with the sacramental one of Roman Catholicism. Then Satan raised up anti-Israel preacher John Stott and Replacement Theology Restorationist Roger Forster to deny that Jesus died to save souls from a permanent conscious hell because they teach none exits. Then Satan raised up Tony Campolo and his son Bart to deny that things Scripture calls “sin” are sin, stating that portions of God’s Word with which they disagree will either be spiritualized away or ignored. Then Satan raised up Mike Bickel’s assortment of predatory perverts, drunks, homosexuals, and mystics — the Kansas City False Prophets who propagated an over-realized eschatology of Kingdom Dominion Theology fueled by failed prophetic predictions. Then Satan raised up Rick Warren to replace God’s peace plan with Rick Warren’s multi-faith one and replace the scriptural kerygma of Gospel presentation with a seeker-friendly one based on the marketing psychology of Peter Drucker, Bill Hybels, Robert Schuller, and New Age mystic Ken Blanchard. Warren’s “Purpose Driven Lie” is not built on biblical theology but on popular psychology which downplays sin. Crystal Cathedral in Calif. Owes Money to Vendors

Moriel and Jacob Prasch ask prayer that the Lord will bring his continued judgment on Robert Schuller’s apostate Crystal Cathedral house of heresy.

Robert Schuller is the professing Reformed Calvinist cum psycho-babbling heretic who preached that he would not mind if his grandchildren became Muslims after inviting the Islamic Grand Mufti of Damascus to his pulpit, and who called upon his congregants to ask the pope whom he called “The Holy Father” the way home. Schuller was influenced by the 33rd degree Free Mason Norman Vincent Peal; we might say that “Schuller laid the egg that Bill Hybels and Rick Warren hatched”.

Schuller once even taught that “Jesus Christ went to the cross in order to magnify His ego”!

We thank God for His almighty judgment on this wicked ministry. May the God who bought down Jim and Tammy Bakker’s PTL Club, the Brownsville Revival of John Kirpatrick, Paula White’s Church Without Walls, and The Lakeland lunatic asylum of the Straders and Todd Bentley, please also now bring down the Crystal Cathedral abomination of Robert Schuller, we pray in Jesus Holy Name. Benny Hinn’s Wife Files for Divorce

This news is pretty apropos considering what we have been discussing lately on this blog – the subject of divorce.

Word of Faith’s brightest star and most well-known evangelist, Benny Hinn, is getting a divorce.  Hinn’s wife, Suzanne, filed for divorce on February 1, 2010 in Los Angeles.  Hinn and his wife had been married for more than 30 years.  The reason?  The oft cited “irreconcilable differences.”  That wasn’t one of the conditions Jesus gave for justifiably seeking a divorce, but, since divorce is an epidemic in our church, we clearly see that many Christians don’t follow the commands of Jesus regarding divorce.

It will be interesting to hear any public statement Hinn makes about this.

Kingdom Violence

Headlines in the news this past week were an ugly reminder that violence is on the increase all over America. TV viewers cringed as images of the dead and wounded being rushed into ambulances in Fort Hood, Texas and Orlando, Florida interrupted regular programming. Collective tears were shed for the hysterical parents desperately trying to find out if their young people were among the victims.

The week before, the Bay Area reeled over the news of a 15-year-old girl who had been gang-raped, robbed, beaten and left for dead outside the Richmond High School dance she attended with her friends. Reportedly ten young men, some of them minors, took part in the brutal assault, taking turns at her. Many dance-goers stood around and watched, laughed, took pictures and egged the deviates on. None of the onlookers came to her assistance or even bothered to call the police. Finally, a student heard second hand that a naked girl was laying unconscious in the dark by the dumpster and called 911. Those who told her about it said they didn’t want to be snitches and so wouldn’t call for help for fear of retaliation. The victim survived but no doubt is scarred for life.

With all the talk in the liberal press about hate crimes, the local news was totally silent over the fact that the victim was a white “church-goer” and all the attackers were Latino in a region where illegal immigration is protected under the “safe haven, sanctuary” laws. If it were the other way around or if the victim were gay, they would have been all over it.

This video shows US televangelist Benny Hinn doing his ‘let the bodies hit the floor’ routine. There are regular reports of miraculous healings from his missions around the world, including Britain. Benny Hinn was meant to be evangelising the UK as I write, with three days booked from last night until 3 October at Excel in London’s Docklands. But his attempt to enter the country at Stansted Airport was unsuccessful. According to sources he took his private jet to Paris and then tried a second time, at Luton Airport. That attempt failed too, and tonight, Friday, he is on his way back to France. Continue reading »
